Pros and Cons of home learning
[ This blog specifically made about home learning but i love mixed it up with distance learning since who cares ]
Hi, welcome to my video which we will
learn pros and cons about home learning, before we jump into it, I would like
to introduce myself. My name is Nathaniel.
First of all, lets learn what is home
learning, home learning is basically a way of disseminating knowledge, where
the educators and students are separated in distance or time or even both. Undoubtedly,
home learning offers wide variety of opportunities to students to attain higher
education, but it is not all about benefits and advantages indeed
Pros
1 Home Learning are Very
Flexible
Since
home learning programs don't require you to be physically present in a
classroom or follow a predefined timetable, you are free to set your own
schedule. Distance education provides you the flexibility to complete your
coursework from anywhere, at any time, and at your own pace. You have an
important chore to run in the morning? No problem - log in to complete your
schoolwork that afternoon or later that night.
2 Get educated even with a tight
budget
Online
education helps you to save on costs like fuel, parking, books, and more. And
since so many of these programs are self-paced, they can offer you the
opportunity to graduate in less time than a traditional program.
3 Online courses help you become
tech-savvy
Home learning
programs make use of sophisticated technology to provide education. By
accessing study material electronically, submitting assignments via websites,
and participating on online forums to interact with teachers and classmates on
a day-to-day basis, you can become more technologically savvy than your
classroom counterparts.
Cons
1 Being overwhelmed and having
difficulties at grasping the material
Home
learning is primarily self-directed. This may not work very well for you if you
need more attention from your teachers, particularly for the more complex parts
of coursework. Self-directed learning can make you an independent learner, but
it's not for everyone. The trade-off is that online degrees deliver the
essential knowledge and tools to form a specific skillset for your career
development.
2 Home Learning Don’t Help In
Developing Oral Skills And Social Interactions
Remember,
most of the home learning courses don’t facilitate oral communication, unless
the program is synchronous learning event, where the students are asked to
participate by using some communication techniques. Today, most of the Home
learning courses use asynchronous method of learning and don’t facilitate such
interactions.
3 Technical Difficulties
Another
difficulty that teacher will encounter with this mode of education is the
requirement of sound technical skills; this includes good typing skills to
excel in Home learning setup. Home learning also includes some hidden cost,
like maintenance and purchasing of computer and other equipments to succeed in
the learning process.
Conclusion
So, it will not be exaggerated to say that along with several benefits
and flexibility, Home learning also has several disadvantages and cons
associated. Most of the Home learning courses are either program-dependent or
person-dependent. So, to make future Home learning more efficient and
widespread, it is important to minimize and avoid all these aforementioned
factors.
